The New Zealand summer is the ideal time for enjoying time with friends and family. Yet for those who struggle to hear, or have sensitive ears, it can be exhausting trying to join conversations or cope with the festive noise.
If you noticed you were withdrawing from conversations and noisy environments over Christmas and New Year because your ears couldn't keep up, it could be time to get your hearing sorted, notes Acoustix’ Audiometrist and “Swiss-made” hearing expert, Thomas Müller.
"It’s not too late to address the problem - any time is a good time to re-join the conversation," he says. “There is no point in delaying, just because you can. Why not make a sound decision now and start reaping the benefits immediately?”
As an independent hearing clinic, Acoustix is committed to helping you with the best of the available technologies customised to your personal needs. The biggest barrier to addressing the problem though is often the person suffering hearing loss. "My first reaction was I didn't think there was anything wrong with my hearing. It doesn't really impair my hearing in day-to-day life, but you just don’t know how much of a difference a hearing aid makes. Thomas has given me a few examples and the next step is to have a trial and see what difference it would make on a day-to-day basis."
Some people experience incredible results with hearing aids. Thomas recalls one elderly patient who was declared to have 'dementia' but also had massive hearing loss. "Once the person was fitted with hearing aids, the person was much more engaged, and the 'dementia' symptoms were radically reduced."
Besides the latest hearing aid technologies, Acoustix also offers custom hearing protection for all uses, such as going to concerts, working on industrial sites or other noisy environments - a great way of minimising the risk of noise induced hearing loss!
Whether you're a musician, retiree, or simply want to protect or improve your hearing, Acoustix is the place to go for everything your ears need.
Open Monday to Friday from 8.30am-5pm, Acoustix is at 347 Remuera Road, Remuera (opposite BNZ, down laneway). Phone 520 5648.
